While President Obama is busy working with Congress and readying for his re-election campaign, he took the time to meet with actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Wednesday to discuss Jolie’s humanitarian efforts.
According to The Associated Press, the two stars were spotted by photographers who had been waiting for the President to leave the White House for a trip to Chicago. The White House later confirmed that Pitt and Jolie did visit with Obama.
The Telegraph reports that a White House spokeswoman issued a statement adding that they spoke about Jolie’s commitments to raising “...the profile of preventing mass atrocities and combating sexual violence against women." Jolie, who is also a Humanitarian Ambassador for the UN, also met with CIA Director David Petraeus at the CIA headquarters.
Jolie had been in Washington to attend and speak at a screening of her Bosnian war film, In The Land of Blood And Honey at the Holocaust museum Tuesday night.
At the screening, she spoke to a reporter for the Daily Caller, saying that, while some aspects of the country have gone in a “wonderful direction” under Obama, “...there are a few things I am disappointed in. And I don’t feel like tonight is the night to clarify but there are many wonderful things that have moved forward and of course some other things that are very frustrating.” She also criticized the way that the government gives out foreign aid, saying that the country should “adjust” the way it gives out aid.
Pitt, who has been seen at recent award events carrying a cane, was seen still using one, notes the AP. He had injured himself in a skiing accident. Pitt has been nominated for and has received several awards for his roles in 2011’s Moneyball and The Tree of Life.
