Prince Harry announces that he will return to Afghanistan

Prince Harry just returned to the UK after going through two months of helicopter training in the US, but he is already going to be moving on. The Prince will return to Afghanistan, four years after he first served there.

Harry let the news slip at the A Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards gala, which honors the UK’s military heroes, Monday, according to The Sun. He reportedly told guests, “I can't wait to get out there." He also called his US training “tough,” but admitted, “I'm looking forward to putting it into practice."

E! News reports that the 27-year-old younger brother to Prince William previously served in Afghanistan in 2007 and 2008 for just 10 weeks. However, once media reports of his secret mission came out, Harry was withdrawn early as his commander’s feared he and his fellow soldiers would be put in greater harm.

According to The Associated Press, Harry’s new service would not be confirmed by the British defense ministry because it does not disclose "deployments of individual service personnel."

Britain currently has 9,500 troops in Afghanistan, although Prime Minister David Cameron confirmed on Tuesday that he will be withdrawing 500 troops in 2012.

Harry is the first member of the Royal Family to serve in the military since his uncle Prince Andrew served in the Falklands Islands conflict in 1982.
