Prince Harry To Go Home
United Kingdom defense officials announced Friday that Prince Harry, who has been secretly deployed to Afghanistan since mid-December, will be brought home from his combat base in Southern Helmand Province five weeks early.
The third-in-line heir to the crown's deployment and presence in Afghanistan has been hidden from the British military and media until recently. An article in an Australian tabloid revealed the secret. Word of Harry's deployment immediately spread to media, all over the globe.
According to Reuters, the Ministry of Defense announced Harry's withdrawal on Friday, saying that the publicity about his presence in Afghanistan had unduly jeopardized him and his fellow soldiers.
"This decision has been taken primarily on the basis that the worldwide media coverage of Prince Harry in Afghanistan could affect the security of those who are deployed there, as well as the risks to him as an individual soldier," said a ministry statement.
Post media-spill reporters included a video interview with Harry and a few other soldiers. Photo's were also released of Harry firing a machine gun, patrolling on foot in full combat gear, and washing his socks in a camp sink on base. What a site, huh?
