Producer Interrupts Oscar Speech
With the Kanye incident still fresh in many viewers' minds, Elinor Burkett seemingly commits a similar incident on Oscars night. The producer ran on stage and interrupted director Roger Ross Williams, as he was making his acceptance speech on behalf of Music By Prudence. Burkett's name was called along with Williams'.
Burkett and Williams are not on speaking terms, and Burkett claims that Williams refused to discuss beforehand who would make the acceptance speech. She also further suggests that she stepped in because Burkett didn't thank the Zimbabwean band Liyana.
Burkett is also wary of the comparisons being made to Kanye, saying from EW:
“It’s ridiculous. I won an Oscar. Kanye West injected himself onto the stage where he didn’t belong. I don’t know why everyone is acting like I didn’t have the right to be there. My name was called, and I went up because I won an Oscar."
She also claims that she "did all the work" and that "his [Williams] Oscar is not bigger than my Oscar."
Williams shared his side of the story on Larry King Live.
