'Project Runway' Recap
Only 10 designers remaining and this week they meet Tim Gunn and Michael Kors at a hardware store. Michael tells them for this challenge the designers need to, “Push the envelope, think outside the box and think in an unconventional way” using materials found in the hardware store. They are given $150 to make an outfit and an accessory that would enhance the design.
The designers are let loose in the store and each one picks different material. Here we go. Jay picks garbage bags. Amy picks sandpaper because like the challenge, someone forgot that was done before. Mila is doing black and white because she loves to color block. Maya is making an accessory out of keys. Emilio has cord and washers. Jesse is praying to just make it past this challenge safe and Jonathan is lost.
In the workroom, Jay takes the place of crybaby in memory of Janeane. Tim’s advice corner is back and Tim is worried Emilio is going to run out of washers and won’t be able to cover his model (in memory of Ping?). He wonders if Mila’s model will have support with paint tray liners. He says Anthony’s outfit is torture? I don’t know but Anthony is redoing the bottom. Tim is in love with Jay’s garbage bag pants because they look like leather. He is in support of Maya’s outfit and loves her key necklace. Jesse talks of Elizabethan mini shirts in copper and Tim thinks it looks to elementary school project. Burn!
Emilio does run out of materials and ends up making a swimsuit. Ben does all copper and Seth does all silver. Both are shiny and Not in a good way.
The judges are Nina, Michael, and Heidi. This week we have two guest judges, fashion designer Isabel Toledo and jewelry designer Stephen Webster.
I was upset Amy didn’t make it to the top three because I like her fan, light color sandpaper, and black sandpaper dress. Jay, Mila, and Maya were the top three. Jay used black trash bags to make pants that looked like leather pants. The top was black trash bags and teal color tape that came together as vertical stripes. Mila’s black and white paint trays wowed the judges. Maya outfit was like by the judges. The net jacket had a nice big collar and the screen dress was sheik but I found it boring. Everyone loved the key necklace with screen detail. I would have switched Maya for Amy but I am not a judge. Jay ended up winning this challenge.
On the runway Anthony, Jesse, and Emilio ended up being the bottom three. Anthony’s wire mesh and purple tape was to prom for Michael and Nina found it boring. Jesse’s outfit was seen as the tin man. Michael thought it looked like a dirty vacuum bag or a Hershey kiss. Michael said, Emilio’s hot pink swimsuit looked cheesy. Nina wanted to know why he didn’t do clothing. Emilio tries to play it off as if he wanted to be different but I really wanted him to say, “I ran out of material.” Also, the Barbie hair on his model didn’t help.
It came down to Emilio and Jesse. Emilio was pure Vegas showgirl while Jesse’s was uninspired and costume-ish. Emilio gets to gamble another day, while Jesse is out.
