'Project Runway' Recap
Waking up in the morning Ben and Jonathan are tired of being safe and want to stick out more. Meeting Heidi the designers are told there will no longer be immunity in the challenge from here on. Now we know it’s serious.
The challenge this time is back to nature. The designers will have one day to make an outfit using one of the four elements, Air, Earth, Fire, and Water. Their budget is $150. Garnier is sponsoring this episode so Philip Carreon did his little teleprompter read.
Jay was able to pick first because of the win in the last challenge so he picked Air. The others had to pick their elements from a deck of cards, face down. Jonathan and Seth also picked Air. Mila and Emilio are Earth. Amy is Fire. Tim says, “Anthony is on Fire” and Anthony says, “Woo, Yeah.” Maya and Ben are H2O. Yeah, that’s water.
Thoughts going around the workroom are Ben is looking to make a suit based on the Great White Shark. Maya’s thinking she is making her model a siren. Jay’s outfit will be a tornado and Anthony is thinking of the smoky remains left after fire. Deep. Seth is NYC air at midnight. Amy is hoping for an explosion from inside. Jonathan will focus on laughter because it’s light as air.
After Mood the workroom is quiet, even Anthony. PR wastes no time giving more advertising time to Garnier. Sorry Garnier, I don’t doubt your styling projects work but I’m don’t see myself doing the Flock of Seagulls hairstyle anytime soon.
Tim’s advice corner comes around and Tim tells Amy to let her “bowl” distill within her. He is worried about Ben being to sutile. Tim warns Mila to be mindful of her mineral sleeveless vest and turtleneck and how it ends up.
Everyone is freaking out and seem as seasons go on then earlier seasons. There has to be a cry from someone in every episode and this time it is Ben. He’s been away from his husband for more then three days. I’m starting to think crying is the kiss of death.
Jay finishes early and helps Ben since Ben is his dearest friend. (Is that allowed?) Amy is draping her models hair in the bowl. Anthony is wondering why Amy is giving her model hairy (and they beep) tits?
Ben sets out in this episode to Wow the judges but at the completion of his suit he can already see flaws.
The runway judges were Heidi, Michael, and Nina. Guest judge is French fashion designer, Roland Mouret. Anthony, Emilio, and Jay are voted into the next round. Maya, Seth, and Jonathan have the highest scores. The judges like Maya’s gray dress that has ruffles on the sleeves. (Water.) The judges agree it is a beautiful, well done dress but they now want to see pieces from her that are not inspired by others. Seth wows the judges with his wind swept black leather outfit. Michael loves the back and Nina likes he stays true to himself. Jonathan’s airy piece is poetic to Nina. The judges fall in love with the color and how it works with the model’s skin tone.
Now the designers with lowest scores are Amy, Ben, and Mila. Ben’s suit is poorly made and the shark teeth as buttons on the sleeves are not a big hit. Nina finds it a mess and all the judges agree the pants make the model look like she’s wearing a jock strap. Amy’s black dress with a bowl to catch the models hair up top is hated by the judges. Nina thinks it’s weird to have a model growing hair out of her chest. Michael thinks Amy was struck with the concept and held on to hard. Mila’s mineral vest found to be super boring by the judges. Michael is tired of her geometric one-trick pony.
Seth, Maya, and Mila are in with Jonathan and his gorgeous and airy dress winning. It was down to Amy and Ben as the bottom two. Even though Amy’s dress looked out there Ben’s shark teeth “came back to bite him.” Ben’s out but says he wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. He wishes everyone the best.
Next week I don’t know what the designers are designing but it is in teams of two. Drama!
