'Project Runway' Recap- "Takin' it to the Streets"
With only eight designers left all have to make an effort to be remembered and not as the bottom three. Tim introduces the next challenge and the L’Oreal Paris make-up guy does his zombie product placement speech. The designers have the day and $300 to design a day and evening look using one of four neighborhoods as inspiration in NYC.
The designers have to work in teams of two. Anthony picks Maya and Chinatown. Amy chooses Jonathan and the Upper East Side. Emilio selected Seth and Harlem. Lastly Jay settles on Mila but gladly picks the East Village. Emilio makes it sound as if he had something to do with the Jay/Mila partnering. Throughout the show he take much pride and enjoyment in the fighting duo.
Instantly Jay and Mila start complaining about one another. But agreed to be inspired by graffiti. Emilio love Harlem and is showing Seth around. They pick out a senior woman in style with her tight denim jeans and a wall mosaic and hope to combined the two. Anthony and Maya are in Chinatown and while Anthony is distracted by dead ducks hanging in windows they do find inspiration with a paper red-dragon in a window display and the buildings. Amy and Jonathan take a walk around the UES and seem to find the fashionistas as shirtdress material during the day and wrought iron fences at night.
The designers seemed to be barely in the workroom when L’Oreal need more sponsor time and the models need make-up.
There is always time for Tim’s advice corner and he starts with Emilio and Seth and is in love with the Harlem look. He thinks Anthony and Maya’s jacket fabric material they (Maya) picked is weak and they maybe should have gone with the striped material (Anthony’s pick). Jay and Mila’s pants are in question. Tim asked, “Would women want to look wider there?” Tim fears Amy and Jonathan are at risk of over designing.
On the runway, for the first time this season, Michael Kors is out. To fill in (because no one can replace Michael) we have women’s creative director for Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa. We still have Nina and Heidi with guest judge, actress and model, Molly Sims.
Top designs went to teams Anthony/Maya and Emilio/Seth. Anthony makes the judges laugh with his dead ducks distraction. Nina liked the three-dimensional look with the origami draping down the black dress. She just wished for more color. The judges liked the little slit of red coming out in the Maya’s skirt and her jacket. The judges could tell it was a great collaboration.
Heidi falls for Emilio’s zipper Billy Holiday evening gown. Nina thinks Seth went overboard with the buttons, piping, and tails on the jacket. Less is more. But the judges can see Emilio and Seth as well as there outfits meshed well together.
The bottom designers are Amy/Jonathan and Jay/Mila. Nina doesn’t think Amy’s yellow/orange pleated dress shirt doesn’t looks polished, while Molly doesn’t feel UES. Heidi finds Jonathan’s piece is to busy. Nina thinks it’s the panels of fabric on the bottom side of the dress that makes it look heavy and cheap.
The judges like Jay/Mila evening look. Nina like Mila’s black and white jacket paired with black boots and red leggings. The day look, which was Jay’s, was a disappointment. The pants where overworked. The red and black tank top, as guest judge Molly pointed out, “Tanked.” No one laughed. Heidi thought the model’s boobs floated around. What boobs?
The win goes to both Emilio and Seth. You would think that means a double elimination but only one goes home this episode. It comes down to Amy and Jay. They find Jay’s tank top ill fitting with the pants. Amy is found to be a disappointment and got lost in the concept again and is voted out. Amy, it also could have been the clown pants and the hairy bowl top of previous weeks. Jonathan is really upset with the idea of Amy going home and starts crying. Jonathan, think of the jinx and don’t cry! You could be next!
Next week is some more great opportunities and looks of fear.
