Project Runway Season 7 Episode 3 Recap

Spoiler Alert! First Aired Jan. 28, 2010.

While the designers (and maybe even the audience) were left to wonder this week why Ping is still around? Ping ran around the living area only able see out of one eye when she had trouble with her contacts. Someone called “maybe that will help you design.” Zing!

The Project Runway group takes a trip to the MET, which was done already in season five. This time the meeting place is in the American Wing where 10 looks from some “iconic” designers were presented by the costume institute. Even Tim was teary eyed by a Madame Gres gown.

It was the dreaded teams of two in last night’s challenge of Project Runway. Designers brought out the claws and teeth. Yes, there were pairs that worked well together but then where’s the drama? The challenge was the designer have to work in teams of two to create a high-end look. They received $500, the highest amount in history of Project Runway, and two days. Do you see what I see coming? The team captains were Jay, Jesus, Anthony, Janeane, Mila, Ping, and Emilo. Jay picks Maya. Jesus picks Amy. The second from the bottom picks the second from the top. Anthony picks Seth and they have pet name right at the start with Seth calling Anthony, “Brown Sugar.” Janeane picks Ben. Mila picks Jonathan. Ping picks Jesse who is angry, upset, and worried that he is stuck with thoughtless. Emilo and Anna.

Ping lost her sketchbook at Mood. At the workroom Ping and Jesse were always fighting. Jesse even said, “I feel like I’m just trying to reign in the crazy.” Tim visits for a surprise, an additional look! (Who didn’t see that?) The budget will be 10% of original ($50) and it will be a look inspired by another’s team. People freak out, especially Jesse when Ping goes shopping at Mood.

Tim’s advice is passed around after some work can be done on the second garment. Tim tells Ping and Jesse the fabric looks cheap and Tim gives Mila and Jonathan a carry on. Tim talks with Anthony and Seth. Seth challenges Anthony with some ideas and Anthony tells Seth to “stop acting up in front of company.”

They all carry on with more fighting from Jesse and Ping during the model fittings. Jonathan feels like he has been making everything except the jacket (that’s what Mila’s been working on). Maya has taken lead over Jay. She felt Jay was slacking since he has immunity.

On the runway the judges are Michael, Nina, Heidi, and British designer Matthew Williamson. Jesus/Amy and Janeane/Ben’s scores qualified them to the next round so we won’t talk about them. The top two groups were Jay/Maya and Mila/Jonathan. Jay and Maya’s high-end gown (which had a wave, puff thing over one shoulder and continued down half the dress) was seen as modern. What sold the judges was the inspired look. Michael said, “The $46 dress blows the $500 dress out of the water.” We will see them next week.

Mila and Jonathan’s high-end outfit looked like a jogging suit with racing strips but the judges feel in love with it. Michael loved it was three pieces. Nina liked it was not a dress. The judges didn’t like the baby doll inspired dress. Jonathan is in and Mila is the winner just for making something other then a dress.

The bottom two groups were, Anthony/Seth and Ping/Jesse. Michael tells Anthony the yellow and black high-end gown is to costume and is to “Gone with the Wind.” The inspired Nina tanks with too much and to much in the past.

Ping tries to defend her gown but when the model drops the drapery Nina thinks all they did was wrap the model in fabric. Also, Nina said the fabric made the model look like she had a tail. Michael thinks the inspired look is fitted all wrong. The model speaks up and tells the judges Ping never fitted her in the dress and Jesse was doing a lot of the work. The model speaking feels like trouble somewhere at some point.

Jesse and Seth remain in. Heidi teases Anthony and Ping with the possibility of two being voted off the island but it is only one this game. Anthony is in and Ping is out. Tim can’t imagine the workroom without her. I can, less chaotic.
