Project Runway Season Six, Episode Five Recap
Project Runway started this episode with another field trip to the L.A. Times printing press. This is where the designers learned their fabric would be newspaper. I couldn't completely understand if the creators of this challenge wanted the inspiration to come from sections in the paper but lets face it, the neat piled papers didn't seem to matter when the designers attacked.
After a brief history lesson about paper clothing since the 1960s, Lifetime focused on the workroom. Most designers didn't take their inspiration from the newspaper but used words like origami and cubism.
By the time Tim Gunn arrived, a clear vision was appearing from all designers. The Tim stopper was Johnny's piece that looked like a kindergarten craft project. Ouch! Johnny's origami shoulder birds sat on top of a red, messy, crumpled up dress. With Tim's departure, Johnny ripped up the dress. Johnny wasted time on the second creation not completely inspirited by his new work. He made up a story for his old mess about steam sputtering from an iron and with the left over time did a crossword puzzle.
The top three on the runway were Christopher, Althea, and Irina. Christopher showed his talent to keep a stylish balance between hard and soft with armored color corset toped dress with a feathered paper skirt. It floated down the runway. Althea took her inspiration from skyscrapers. The ads of the paper and her placing of crease gave a classy, architecture, print within a print look. But the winner was Irina. She designed a trench coat with paper fur collar and cuffs.
Gordana created a safe outfit, according to the judges. Her dress was a wearable outfit from an unconventional fabric. It may only have seemed boring because of the other designers' works of art. Nicolas tried to go Asian/punk but the judges saw arts and craft time and didn't reach his vision. Johnny's dress came out plain and messy. One judge even described it as looking like a working" woman's dress. So Johnny gave his steam water excuse and was voted out.
Tim says goodbye to Johnny and shows him the door but even Tim couldn't help pointing out the lie. The worst was Johnny's after personal camera comments. He cried about how he really wanted to go to Bryant Park. Sorry Johnny, shouldn't have wasted time doing a crossword puzzle and making up lies.
