Project Runway Season Six Episode Six Recap
This episode had to be the best one in a long time. Being that the show is now in LA they had a movie challenge. Tim Gunn picked a name out of a bag. The designer pick a movie genre, they make up a character, and dress the models. The outfit had to be made in one day so no pressure or anything. Yeah, right! I think Nicolas showed the panic best in the workroom with his run, hop, and squeak.
Most designers had no problems developing a story for their garment except for Louise. She was to busy losing bobbins and poking holes in her fingers. Everyone was working diligently with no drama and in comes the visit from Tim, in comes the visit of models and out goes Ra'mon's outfit. Ra'mon didn't like his Sci-fi inspiration on his model. He described his green leotard as Kermit the Frog and scraped it with only two hours to make something new. But, his quick designs have gotten him a win before.
At the runway is a new set of judges and I am having too much trouble keeping up with the new faces. Irina, Shirin, Althea, and Carol Hannah are pushed through to the next round for their middle ground. The top designers are Epperson, Christopher, and Nicolas. Epperson was last to pick, meaning he had no choice but to pick western. Well, Annie had her gun stashed under her denim ruffled shirt. The tattered dress had layers of romance bringing out a tuff beauty in the model. This was a workingwoman rancher not to be messed with. Christopher, who was my personal favorite, picked period film. His design was a Victorian-inspired, but modern bustle shirt with a wide belt around the middle. The top was an ivory halter with a lace neck and a small ruffle in the back. His dress wasn't an accurate period piece but he made a dress that was photogenic at all angles. The winner was Nicolas with his Ice Queen Sci-fi dress. The white gown with feathers and sparkles finally found its place in the competition and Nicolas was seen as an artist. The judges thought him bold and risky but I think he found his contest.
The bottom three designers for this battle where Gordana, Louise, and Ra'mon. Gordana made a 20s flapper and she made the look perfect, sadly to perfect. While the gold beaded dress was well made there was no new vision, no wow factor. She made it to the next round because of her sewing talents. Louise's model was a 40s girl going to a costume party as a 20s flapper. Instead her vision was messy, boring, and cheap just like her dress. Louise took the criticism way to polite but I think being on the bottom affected her more then she said. Finding she was in' she ran off the runway with a peep of tears. Ra'mon's dress toss got him tossed out. His new leather Sci-fi dress missed the mark. So much for being risky, the judges thought it looked like a B-rate movie, swamp thing. Instead of creativity it was a green mess. I will miss his constant dyeing of fabrics.
