'The Proposal' Director Calls Film A True Comedy

Director Anne Fletcher makes "The Proposal" more of a screwball comedy with a hint of romance.

The Proposal may fool the audience into thinking it is mostly romance when it's really mostly comedy.

The film's director, Anne Fletcher, is taking the movie is a different direction. Fletcher is famous for other movies such as "27 Dresses" and "Step Up," and is looking to turn "The Proposal" into a film that focuses on comedy first and romance second.

In an interview with the LA Times, Fletcher said: "The script was so great, like a little screwball comedy. We want to deem ourselves more screwball than romantic comedy, even though with any good screwball comedy there's romance involved, or love, or icky kissing.

"I felt like '27 Dresses' was a bona fide romantic comedy. But you can't get Sandy [Bullock] to call 'The Proposal' a romantic comedy. She does not want it to be called that."

Although the film looks like a romance with a mixture of some comedy the director says at the heart of the movie is pure fun.
