Prosecutors Will Not Pursue Charges Against Tyson For LAX Incident

Los Angeles prosecutors have reportedly declined to press charges against former World Heavyweight Champion boxer Mike Tyson

According to BoxingScene.com, the Los Angeles, California prosecutors’ office announced earlier today that charges would not be brought against former heavyweight champion of the world of boxing, Mike Tyson, for his physical altercation with a photographer at LAX airport in November. Tyson allegedly punched 50-year-old photographer Tony Echevarria when he began to aggressively take pictures of him, his wife and 10-month-old daughter. The punch, which was also instigated by the fact that the photographer allegedly bumped into the baby’s stroller, knocked Echevarria down and it resulted in a laceration on his forehead.

An official statement was released by spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office, Frank Mateljan, which states, “After a full and thorough review, we’ve decided not to file charges against either party due to insufficient evidence.” Tyson’s attorney, Shawn Champion Holley, clarified at the time that the incident occurred at the Los Angeles International Airport that his client was merely protecting his family due to overaggressive action by the photographer.

Holley provided a statement in response to the decision that was made earlier today by the Los Angeles, California prosecutors office, saying, “The city attorney's decision today is a small victory for those who continue to be harassed, annoyed and even stalked by the paparazzi.”
