Rapper/actress Queen Latifah is the latest celebrity to move into the daytime talk show arena. Sony Pictures Television revealed today that they are working on a syndicated show, hosted by Latifah, that will start airing in 2013.
According to The New York Times, James Lassiter and Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment and Latifah and Shakim Compere’s Flavor Unit Entertainment will work on the still-untitled show with Sony. Latifah’s first acting role was actually on Smith’s Fresh Prince of Bel Air back in 1991, so the two already have a working relationship.
Compere, Overbrook’s Miguel Melendez, Smith, Latifah, Lassiter and Jada Pinkett-Smith will all act as executive producers, according to Deadline.
This will actually be Latifah’s second talk-show hosting gig. Her first was over ten years ago, when she worked with Warner Bros. for two seasons from 1999 to 2001 on The Queen Latifah Show.
Latifah recently starred in The Dilemma and has been cast in the next Ice Age film. She was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in the 2002 Best Picture winner, Chicago.
