Quentin Tarantino Up for Top Cannes Prize
BBC News reports that the film, Inglourious Basterds, directed by Quentin Tarantino, is one of 20 films in the running for the Palme d'Or, the biggest prize at the annual Cannes Film Festival. The film is about a group of American soldiers fighting the Nazis in World War II and stars Brad Pitt.
This year, Tarantino is the only American director who could win the prize. Among his competitors are Pedro Almodovar, Jane Campion and Ang Lee, according to the Associated Press.
Tarantino has previously won the award for his 1994 film, Pulp Fiction. Reuters reports that there are other directors in the running who have won the prize in previous years, including Jane Campion and Ken Loach.
The festival, which is in its 62nd year, will kick off May 13 with a screening of the animated comedy film, Up. It will be the first time the festival will open with an animated feature. The festival will close on May 24.
