R. Kelly Case Wraps Up, Goes to Jury

Prosecution and defense teams make closing arguments before jury deliberates.

Both prosecution and defense teams wrapped up their respective cases and made their closing arguments Thursday in the R. Kelly sex tape trial, the Associated Press reports.

The prosecution, for the second time in the trial, played out the entire 27-minute tape for the jury, which allegedly includes Kelly and a 15-year-old girl participating in sex acts.

Kelly's defense team maintained that it is not the singer who is on the tape, citing a mole on the man's back that Kelly does not have. They also attempted to cast doubts on the identity of the girl in question. Both Kelly, who has pleaded not guilty, and the now 23-year-old girl, deny being on the tape. Neither testified at the trial.

Defense attorney Sam Adam, Jr. steadfastly claimed that Kelly was not on the tape, and the woman on the tape was a "professional prostitute."

In all, 22 witnesses were called by the prosecution during the trial, while the defense called 12, including 3 relatives of the alleged victim who were unable to identify her on the tape.

The jury began deliberating Thursday afternoon and continued until 6:00 PM when they adjourned.
