R Kelly Porn Trial to Begin Next Month
Jury selection will begin in mid-September for the trial of R. Kelly, reports BBC News. Vincent Gaughan, a Chicago judge, announced that selection begins on Sept. 17th for the recording artist's trial. R. Kelly is accused of allegedly engaging in sex acts with a minor, which was recorded on video tape. He was first accused five years ago. The 40-year-old Kelly has submitted a not guilty plea in answer to 14 charges of child pornography.
Florida prosecutors were forced to drop charges against the singer back in 2004, following a judge's ruling that the seizure of photographs from Kelly's home had been done illegally. But now, finally, Kelly will be tried. His accusers say that the girl in the video may have been as young as 13 when the tape was made. She is now 22. The singer's defense attorneys, however, dispute the claim. They also will contest that it is even R. Kelly in the video.
R. Kelly, whose real name is Robert Kelly, is best known for his hit song, "I Believe I Can Fly." The two-time Grammy winner has collaborated with such mega-stars as Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
