Rachel McAdams stars in the upcoming romance film The Vow opposite Channing Tatum.

Although they both have had experience starring in a romance movie, McAdams in The Notebook, where she fell for co-star Ryan Gosling, and Tatum in Dear John, the actress wasn’t quite sure the two actors would have chemistry on film. It wasn’t for any negative reason, but because they were more like “buds” than lovers off-screen.

“I was worried we might not [have onscreen chemistry], because we were more like brother and sister, like buds,” she told the February issue of Glamour. “Channing is very outgoing, very kind and a lot of fun to work with.”

McAdams and Tatum had no room to be more than “brother and sister” off-screen anyway, since Channing Tatum is married to his Step Up co-star Jenna Dewan, and McAdams is dating actor Michael Sheen. She adds that though she’s fallen for her costars in the past, despite what people may think, a romance on a movie set isn’t very romantic.

“A set may seem like a good place for romance, but I don't think it's very conducive,” she said. “It's too distracting. Every relationship I've had with a coworker has come after the fact, because you wind up actually spending a lot of time with those people promoting the movie.”
