Rachel Uchitel has reportedly returned the vast majority of a $10 million settlement to Tiger Woods and threatened former attorney Gloria Allred with a lawsuit for allegedly strong-arming her into a deal.
Woods kept Uchitel from holding a tell-all press conference detailing his extramarital affairs by paying her $10 million in exchange for an ironclad confidentiality agreement.
Jay Lavely, Woods’ lawyer, reached out to Allred to claim that Uchitel violated the agreement’s confidentiality clause by undergoing treatment for her “addiction to love” during season 4 of VH1’s Celebrity Rehab and speaking with TMZ.
The nightclub manager-turned-reality star was not under the impression that she committed any wrongdoings. But Allred struck a deal with Lavely after convincing her client that she would ultimately lose if the golfer’s legal team pursued litigation.
Uchitel believes Allred opted to strike a deal with Lavely because it ensured she would keep her attorney’s fees, which were not guaranteed had she lost in arbitration.
A malpractice lawyer hired by Uchitel is set to file a legal malpractice lawsuit against Allred if she does not return her fees by an unspecified deadline. Neither Uchitel nor Allred have commented on the matter.
