Radiohead Finally Releases "In Rainbows" Numbers

The album, if you'll remember, was quite unique.

A year after Radiohead released the outstanding In Rainbows, the publisher of the "pay-what-you-want" album has revealed the financial details of its release.

Even though these aren't the official numbers, Warner Chappell (not Dave's brother) says, "Radiohead made more money before 'In Rainbows' was released than they made in total on the previous album 'Hail To the Thief,'" according to Music Ally.

There have been a total of three million purchases of In Rainbows (including digital sales, box sets, vinyls and CDs) since the album was officially on sale on January 1, 2008.

This doesn't include the "pay-what-you-want" aspect of the release, but Chappell said that more people did in fact pay nothing than pay something for the album. Actually, the three million (100,000 of which were $80 box sets) is even more impressive when one considers that it was downloaded more on Bit Torrent than free on Radiohead's Web site.
