Raimi Returns To Horror Roots With Ellen Page

Sam Raimi's new horror film will star young actress Ellen Page.

Sam Raimi might be best known as the director behind the Spiderman films. But his roots lie in campy horror films, such as the three-part movie series Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness, which all star Bruce Campbell, Raimi's childhood friend, as Ash.

For the unfamiliar, the character Ash is a ten on the Badass scale.

Raimi has also directed other popular feature films like The Quick and The Dead (1995) and A Simple Plan (1998). But for fans who long for the director's cult-horror days...well, long no longer.

Raimi's new film Drag Me to Hell is set to begin production on March 17, and will be produced through Raimi's Ghost House company and distributed by Universal. Oscar nominee Ellen Page is set to star in the new film, in which she becomes the recipient of a mythological supernatural curse. More about the plot has yet to be revealed.

Page generated buzz with her performance in the 2005 independent movie Hard Candy, giving what USA Today called "one of the most complex, disturbing, and haunting performances of the year." She also starred in the third X-Men film and played Juno in the recent successful film of the same name.

Page will follow Drag Me to Hell with Whip It, a roller derby picture that will mark directorial debut of actress Drew Barrymore.
