Randy Jackson Talks About Abdul Leaving 'Idol'

Randy Jackson talks about the shocking news news that Abdul won't be returning to Idol.

When news broke that Paula Abdul would not be returning to "American Idol" for season 9, it sent mixed emotions all around. Randy Jackson, who is also a judge on the show says he is "shocked" about it.

"I am shocked. Paula is a dear friend and will be missed," Jackson told Us Magazine.

The news that Abdul would not appear on Idol for it's upcoming season, which begins to tape on Thursday, came last night via Abdul's Twitter page.

The tweet read: "With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to Idol. I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day one become an international phenomenon."

Shortly after Abdul tweeted she wasn't returning, host Ryan Seacrest wrote a little something.

"I am shocked and saddened about Paula...Idol and the cast have grown with each other over the last 8 seasons...I can't imagine the panel without Paula. She's a star [and] a great friend." Seacrest said via Twitter.

FOX released a statement about it as well saying, "Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she's a tremendous talent and we wish her the best."

According to the New York Times, Abdul demanded $20 million to be on the upcoming season, but only made $2 million last season.
