Rapper DMX Going to Jail on Drug and Animal Cruelty Charges

The former rapper faces 90 days as he pleads guilty to multiple charges.

Rapper-turned-actor DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to drug, theft, and animal cruelty charges. The 38-year-old Simmons has been battling criminal charges during the past year and has had several bench warrants issued for his arrest due to missed court appearances. In May, sheriff's deputies raided his home near Phoenix, Ariz., and found dog carcasses and malnourished pit bulls at the residence, reports Reuters. Simmons is also being charged with assuming a false identity and providing false information during a trip to the Mayo Clinic in an alleged attempt to avoid paying the bill. He pleaded guilty to three criminal charges and one misdemeanor charge under a deal to settle three criminal cases against him; part of the deal is the agreement to not own any firearms or animals. He faces 90 days and is currently awaiting his January 30 sentencing in custody.
