Ready for Monopoly the Movie?

Hasbro signs deal with Universal.

According to E-Flux Media, Hasbro the game company and Universal Pictures have signed a six-year deal that would turn several of Hasbro's products into movies. The products include Monopoly, Candy Land, Clue, Ouija, Battleship, Magic: The Gathering and Stretch Armstrong.

Transformers, the movie, directed by Michael Bay for Paramount Pictures and released in 2007, set the precedent. Transformers became the 28th most successful movie worldwide, grossing $706 million, according to Wikipedia. A sequel is in the works.

But, are we ready for Monopoly the movie? Monopoly is the property closest to becoming in production. Ridley Scott is attached to direct. Scott previously directed American Gangster for Universal and is to work on Nottingham with frequent collaborator, Russell Crowe.

Monopoly will be a comedy thriller according to E-Flux Media. None of the other properties by Hasbro contracted to Universal have named actors, directors or producers.

"This deal gives Universal access to some of the greatest brands in the world," Universal Pictures co-chiefs Marc Shmuger and David Linde said in a statement announcing the deal. "They offer an exciting opportunity for us to develop tentpole movies with built-in global brand awareness."

Transformers and G.I. Joe have been contracted to Paramount.
