Real-Life Lucy From The Beatles Song Dies
Lucy Vodden, 46, died recently from Lupus after a long fought battle with the disease. Lupus is a chronic illness in which the body's tissue is attacked by the immune system.
Vodden came to fame when the song 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' written by The Beatles was said to be written about her. John Lennon's oldest son Julian came home one day from school with a drawing that he called 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds', the main inspiration for the song as reported by TheAssociatedPress.com.
Most skeptics feel that the song was actually about the drug LSD. The song was written around the time when most hippies of the mid to late 60's were experimenting with LSD.
Due to the vivid imagery of the song's lyrics written by Lennon and McCartney, many felt the song was an ode to the mind altering drug. The Beatles always denied this rumor, even though at this point they were knee deep in their psychedelic rock phase. 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' is a song from The Beatles land mark album 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', which often tops musical lists as one of the greatest and or most influential albums of all time.
When Lucy was in school with Julian her last name was O'Donnell, but her married name is Vodden. Julian has said that he used to show all the work he painted or made as a child to his father but for some reason this one stuck out.
Julian has kept in touch with Lucy over the recent years since she has been suffering from the disease.
