Reality Hosts to Cohost Emmys

Show tries multiple hosts for first time since 2003.

Five of televison's most notable reality TV show hosts will cohost the 60th annual Emmy Awards on September 21, Reuters reports.

The show will be cohosted by American Idol's Ryan Seacrest, Survivor's Jeff Probst, Dancing with the Stars' Tom Bergeron, Deal or No Deal's Howie Mandel, and Project Runway's Heidi Klum.

Last week, these five hosts were nominated in the new category of "Best Reality Host." Producers started considering the idea of the five-person cohosting duties when the group was revealed as nominees on July 17.

"When we saw the nominees (in the category), they turned out to be such a perfect group of people," executive producer Ken Erlich said.

Details on the hosting arrangement are still being worked out, but Erlich said that they will be together on the stage at some point.

The show drew criticism when it attempted a 13-host format in 2003, using comedians to share the duties. Since then, the show has reverted to the single host format, with Seacrest earning the honor last year.

"This gives us the opportunity to be very contemporary and current on a show where we also will celebrate the history of the TV Academy and the history of television," Erlich said. "It's the best of both worlds."
