Red Carpet Gowns

The Red Carpet was a feast for the eyes at this years 83rd Academy Awards. The actresses and presenters shined in gowns raining from metallics, purples, and an abundance of color.

A surprising number of ladies wore dresses in red shades. Jennifer Lawrence, best actress nominee, was seductive in a simple Calvin Klein silhouette. Jennifer Hudson was extremely luminescent in a Versace tangerine dress. Penelope Cruz, just a couple months after giving birth wore a red L'Wren Scott dress with sequin embellishments showing off her figure.Sandra Bullock who took home the best actress Oscar last year, kept it simple in a strapless red Vera Wang and minimal jewelry. Host Ann Hathaway graced the red carpet before the show wearing a red ruffled dress as well.

The ladies of best picture nomination wore shades of purple. Mila Kunis wore a romantic lavender Eliie Saab silk organza peekaboo gown. Best actress favorite Natalie Portman looked amazing showing off her baby bump in a deep off the shoulder Rotarde dress and Tiffany & Co. drop earnings. Scarlett Johansson looked sexy in a see-through purple lace Dolce & Gabbana.

Silver and white were also popular colors, as presenter Hillary Swank wore a silver Gucci Gown. First time performer Gwyneth Paltrow looked stunning in a gun metal silver Calvin Klein dress to match her sleek hair. Michelle Williams, nominated for best actress for Blue Valentine, wore a simple white beaded Chanel dress to match her platinum pixie hair.

Halle Berry looked very elegant in a taupe and silver Marchesa gown. Another Marchesa dress was worn and designed by 14 year old best supporting actress nominee Hailee Steinfeld, who looked age appropriate sporting a headband and blush colored 3/4 length ballerina inspired dress. Marc Bauwer designed a white and gold cutout dress with mirrored effect for best supporting actress nominee Melissa Leo.

Cate Blanchett was out of the box wearing a lilac Givenchy Couture warrior gown with yellow shoulder embellishments. Helena Bonham Carter was quirky as ever wearing a black dress by costume designer Colleen Atwood.Reese Witherspoon kept it very simple in a black and white, with a voluminous pony tail. Amy Adams was sparkling in a cap sleeve deep violet dress by L'Wren Scott.
