Baby, Michael Bay's a firework.

The fond-of-explosives-and-babes director's Transformers 3: Dark Side of the Moon has broken box office records and now holds the biggest July 4 weekend draw-in ever, according to Deadline.

EW adds that the third movie in the good-robots-versus-bad-robots franchise has also claimed a spot as the third largest global opening ever, settling behind a boy wizard and a web-slinging superhero.

Even without Megan Fox semi-naked on a well-oiled motorcycle, the film brought in $116.4 million domestically, putting it on track to break bank as the biggest fourth of July weekend movie opening.

While the threequel is obviously doing well in the United States, it is also blasting away the competition, literally, overseas where big-budget action movies and the glory of 3D is higher on the list of movie-goers' priorities list.

Dark Side of the Moon, which Shia LaBeouf has announced will be his last Transformers adventure, has made $181 million in six days. The number looks impressive until it's pitted against Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's, which made $214.9 million in six days.

However, both Deadline and EW note that the third installment has garnered better reviews.

LaBeouf and his heavy machinery easily trumped the theatrical competition, which included Disney/Pixar's Cars 2 and the Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts rom-com Larry Crowne, which only brought in $32 million and $15.7 million for the Independence Day holiday, respectively.
