Reese Witherspoon Admits Divorce Was "Humiliating and Isolating"
Actress Reese Witherspoon has opened up to Elle magazine about the heartbreak of her very public divorce from Ryan Phillippe, People.com is reporting.
Witherspoon, 32, reflects in the interview that the 2006 split was "very humiliating and very isolating," but admits that the emotions were to be expected at the end of a loving relationship. "If it's not painful, maybe it wasn't the right decision to marry to begin with."
The actress also confesses that she found efforts to console her after the breakup to be entirely unhelpful: "When people get in your face and say, 'This will pass,' you think: Are they crazy? I'm never gonna feel any better than I feel right this minute and nothing's ever gonna make sense again. And I still have moments where I'm like, 'Nothing's ever gonna make sense again.'"
The interview, which appears in the April issue of Elle, also sheds light onto Witherspoon's new relationship with Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal. "He's fabulous," she gushes. "He really is a fantastic guy." Aside from that brief praise, however, Witherspoon remains tight-lipped, preferring to focus on promoting her new movie, Monsters vs. Aliens, to questions on her love life. "Unfortunately, he's not in the movie," she says of Gyllenhaal, "so we can't really talk about him."
