Reese Witherspoon was hit by a car on Wednesday while jogging in Santa Monica, California.

According to Reuters, the actress was treated and went home following the accident.

"The actress was not seriously injured and is resting comfortably at home," Witherspoon's spokeswoman said.

Fox News reports that the driver of the vehicle was an 84-year-old woman. She was apparently driving at 20 mph. Police issued her a citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk.

Witherspoon was sent to a nearby hospital, where she was released shortly afterwards.

The 35-year-old star played Marlena Rosenbluth in Water for Elephants and won a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for her portrayal of June Carter Cash in the critically acclaimed film Walk the Line. She will star in McG's upcoming action-comedy film This Means War.
