Reeve Carney, the star of the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, has landed the lead role in yet another movie about the musician, Jeff Buckley.
According to MTV News, the film is still untitled but is set to begin production this November.
The director, Jake Scott, known for directing Welcome to the Rileys, says that Carney has "the perfect combination of musical prodigy, impish charm, innate intelligence and sensitivity to play Jeff." He will do all of his own singing for the film.
According to the Los Angeles Times, this film has a big advantage over the others - Jeff Buckley's mother, Mary Guibert, is one of the movie’s producers and owns the rights to her late son's work.
They also have been given the rights to use Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” which Jeff Buckley helped make famous when he recorded it for his album, Grace.
A third Buckley biopic is also in the works. It is based on the book, A Pure Drop: The Life of Jeff Buckley, and will be directed by Brendan Fletcher.
