Regis Philbin Sets World Record

Philbin wins Guinness Book record for most hours on camera

With a lengthy career, beginning with a local news stint in San Diego in 1958, television host Regis Philbin was awarded the Guinness Book world record for the most hours on camera, with a whopping 15,188 hours, beating out former record-holder Hugh Downs with 10, 511 hours. Though Philbin has graced television sets for nearly fifty years, he is most well known for his morning talk show "Live with Regis and Kelly" which began in 2001, replacing "Live with Regis and Kathie Lee" which ran for 13 seasons. In addition, Philbin hosted the hugely successful game show "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" which reached number one in the ratings and was cancelled in 2002, but earned him the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host. Philbin was awarded the honor Friday on his program "Live with Regis and Kelly."
