Release Date Set for Apple's iPhone!
Mark your calendars for the release date of the product promised from on high to revolutionize the mobile communications world: June 29.
Cingular (aka AT&T Wireless) made three commercials available to the public on June 3 that detailed Apple's forthcoming iPhone. In addition to further glamorizing all of the hyped features of the somehow now mythic iPhone - mobile communications device! iPod! internet browser! - the ads finally clarified that the product will indeed be released on June 29. The first commercial aired Sunday on CBS during its show 60 Minutes.
Analysts had previously speculated that the release date would be anywhere from June 11 to June 22 to June 29 (the correct date).
The iPhone will be sold exclusively through Cingular/AT&T Wireless. Buyers must agree to 2-year contracts with the wireless provider in order to purchase a model with either 4GB or 8GB storage capacities for iTunes, priced at $499 and $599, respectively, Slash Gear reported. Pricey... BUT THINK OF WHAT IT CAN DO! (at least that's what Apple wants you to think)
Cingular stores report that they needed to create waiting-lists because of the high demand for the upcoming product. However, the waiting lists probably result from the fact that Apple will (read: can at this time) only release a maximum of 40 copies of the iPhone per store, reported W. David Gardner of IT News.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs will further discuss the iPhone in his keynote at Apple's World Wide Developer Conference in San Francisco on June 11.
