Remorseful Chris Klein Sentenced to Four Years Probation for DUI Arrest

The ‘American Pie’ actor was also sentenced to a four-day jail term that he has already served

Actor Chris Klein came to a plea agreement in court Friday morning, pleading no contest to DUI charges stemming from a June 16 arrest. He was sentenced to four days in jail, which he has already served on his own accord in an effort to exemplify his newfound commitment to sobriety, as well as four years probation, the NY Daily News reports.

The American Pie and Just Friends actor took proactive measures prior to Friday’s proceedings. To go along with his decision to voluntarily serve 96 hours behind bars, he chose to extend his treatment program at Sundance, Utah’s Cirque Lodge Drug Rehab Center for alcohol and addiction treatment.

Before his fate was determined, the remorseful actor apologized to Judge David B. Gelfound, saying, “I apologize for my wrongdoing and I really appreciate the court giving me the opportunity to prove how seriously I took all of this.” Judge Gelfound, who had the option of sentencing Klein to up to one year in prison, opted for probation instead.

His defense attorney, Blair Berk, expressed gratitude for his client’s eagerness to take responsibility, telling the NY Daily News, “The fact that Chris took the steps he did has been very impressive. Chris has used this experience in such a positive way to get help to confront an addiction to alcohol. He deserves enormous praise for stepping up and getting it done.”

Klein’s DUI arrest on June 16 was his second drunk-driving incident to have occurred over the past five years. He was charged with two misdemeanors in 2005 when he recorded a .20 blood-alcohol level.
