Charlie Sheen complimented Ashton Kutcher when news broke that he would serve as his replacement on CBS’ Two and a Half Men. But sources close to the actor claim that he is devastated over not being asked to return to the show.

“He is destroyed that Ashton is replacing him. Destroyed,” an insider tells PopEater. “We are all worried that he hasn’t hit bottom yet and that this could make him spiral out of control again. Especially after all the other productions that he assumed would happen have fell apart.”

Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men following a long, drawn-out media circus in which he bashed co-creator Chuck Lorre, network executives, and Warner Bros.

The troubled actor expressed optimism over possibly returning to the show, but he was reportedly blindsided by CBS’ decision.

“He really thought that he would be invited back,” another source added, according to Digital Spy. “After years of suffering no consequences for his behavior, why would he think anything else? Finally it has sunk in that he doesn’t live by different rules to everyone else. Actions do have consequences.”

Kutcher addressed his new gig by praising Sheen and revealing that he intends to work tirelessly in an attempt to entertain viewers.
