One for the Money star Katherine Heigl said earlier in the month that she would be interested in returning to ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in which she appeared as Dr. Izzie Stevens. However, according to a new report, the chances of her character suddenly reappearing after an almost two-year absence is probably not going to happen.
Although her character was popular and earned her an Emmy in 2007, Heigl had an awkward relationship with the show. According to Entertainment Weekly, a source close to the show’s production said that Heigl is likely not to come back. People on the set are still annoyed with Heigl’s public criticism of the way the show works behind the scenes.
CinemaBlend reports that she once said that the show was not Emmy-worthy and later publicly complained that the 17-hour workday was too much. There were rumors in 2010 that creator Shonda Rhimes would simply kill off her character, but Heigl was simply let out of her contract early to focus on her movie career.
While promoting One for the Money, Heigl has said a couple of times that she would be interested in returning to the show. First, in an interview with E! News, she admitted that she has told the show’s producers that she would like to come back. She also said that if they had called, she would do it. “Yeah totally. I really, really, really want to see where [Izzie] is. I just want to know what happened to her and where she went and what she's doing now,” she told E! News.
She also spoke to TV Line, confirming that there haven’t been any talks between the two sides. “I haven’t been approached about it [yet]...But who knows? You never know.”
Clearly, it looks like it is going to be awhile before the two sides can agree and Izzie comes back to Grey’s.
