Reports surfaced Wednesday alleging that Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem welcomed their first child over the weekend, and reps for the accomplished actors confirmed the wonderful news by issuing a statement to People.
“Penélope and Javier welcomed their first son into their family last week,” their reps acknowledged in a joint statement. “Both parents and baby are doing great.”
Cruz gave birth at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a non-profit hospital in Los Angeles, California, a source close to the high-profile couple has revealed.
Cruz, 36, and Bardem, 41, have yet to announce their son’s name. According to CBS News, no other information about the baby has been released.
Cruz, who secretly tied the knot with her Vicky Cristina Barcelona co-star last July, admitted during a 2009 interview that she wanted to have kids in the future.
“Of course I want to have my own kids, as well as adopt some,” Cruz said at the time, according to Zimbio. “I love children and I have a tendency to become a mother to everyone around me. I believe in family, love, and children, and my life wouldn’t be complete without children.”
The Academy Award-winning actress publicly debuted her baby bump in September on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
