The Return of ‘Jersey Shore’ Upsets Italian American Groups
Although a lot of people are pumping their fists in the air with the announcement of a Jersey Shore season two premiere, there are some viewers of the show who are less excited about “The Situation.”
Joseph Del Raso, who is the president of the National Italian American Foundation, has used words and phrases such as “disgrace,” “outrageous,” and “laden with promiscuity, debauchery, and violence,” to describe the hit show. In a statement, Del Raso said, “Italian-Americans, the Garden State and the Jersey Shore deserve better.”
However, the cast of Jersey Shore doesn’t mean for anyone to take offense to the way they live their lives. On the Today show, they said that people have been taking the show too seriously.
“We represent ourselves. We’re not saying we’re a definition of Jersey, or a definition of New York, or a definition of Italians. I just happen to be Italian. I happen to have some spiky hair and a six-pack, and I am proud to have that. And if you don’t like me, I don’t care. I still got 5 million viewers Thursday nights at 10 p.m.,” Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino said.
