The Return of Ricky Gervais

'The Office' star Ricky Gervais returns to HBO with his all-new 'The Ricky Gervais Show.'

The man behind the original The Office and The Extras is finally back with an all new show on HBO. This time, however, the star is animated.

Simply named The Ricky Gervais Show, the adult animation is in the same mold as such classic hits as Family Guy and The Simpsons. According to Entertainment Weekly, the show is based off of Gervais’s own popular podcast series. As seen in nearly all of his projects, Gervais is reunited with his longtime writing partner, Stephen Merchant. In Extras, Merchant played useless agent Darren Lamb to Gervais’s own Andy Millman.

In addition to Merchant, the new Ricky Gervais Show also features producer Karl Pilkington. Throughout the show, both Merchant and Gervais constantly throw jabs at Pilkington for his peculiar ideas and stories. Gervais has even stated that Pilkington is “another Homer Simpson.”

The reviewer goes on to state that despite certain animation flaws, the show is certainly one to look out for.
