Reynolds to Take on Comic Book Superhero
Actor Ryan Reynolds, husband to actress Scarlett Johansson, will become famous DC comic book superhero Green Lantern in an upcoming film.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Reynolds scored the role, which was sought after by actor Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover") and singer Justin Timberlake. The filming will begin in January and will be produced by Warner Bros.
Reynolds had already starred in comic book adaptations, TheInsider.com reports. He was vampire hunter Hannibal King in "Blade: Trinity" and Wade Wilson/Deadpool in 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," both films adapted by Marvel Comics. He was rumored to have wanted to play WallyWest/the Flash, teammate of Green Lantern in the Justice League of America.
Celebuzz reports Reynolds will be under the direction of Martin Campbell, who directed "Casino Royale." He underwent two rounds of screen tests as well as Cooper, Timberlake and singer/actor Jared Leto, TheInsider.com said. However, Reynolds eventually won and entered negotiations for the role on Friday.
