Ricky Gervais to Appear on "Sesame Street"

Creator of "The Office" and "Extras" will make an appearance on the beloved children's show.

British comedian Ricky Gervais is set to star in an upcoming episode of Sesame Street, reports BBC News.

Gervais writes on his blog, "I've been asked to do 'Sesame Street.' There are some things you don't turn down."

The 47-year-old funnyman will star alongside Sesame Street mainstays Bert and Ernie, as well as Big Bird and Elmo, says Now Magazine. He will join the likes of David Beckham, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba and Alicia Keys, who have all made appearances on the show.

Gervais has also reportedly been approached about hosting the 2009 Oscars after his well-received gag at this year's Emmys. However, he told BBC News he is reluctant to accept because of the limited freedom it allows.

Gervais can currently be seen in theaters in the comedy, Ghost Town. His stand-up special, "Ricky Gervais: Out of England," will premiere on HBO this Saturday at 9 p.m.
