The Academy Awards may hire repeat hosts every now and then, but it seems that’s the only choice for the Golden Globes.
People reported Ricky Gervais will be back to host next year’s Golden Globes for the third time in a row.
It took a long time to make the decision. According to the magazine, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and NBC, which will air the event, had disagreements over bringing him back. While the TV network was all for it, HFPA was a little more hesitant, particularly after Gervais’ last performance.
MTV News reported the original Office creator caused a lot of controversial buzz earlier this year when he lashed out at some of Hollywood’s finest and sarcastically flaunted his atheism by thanking God.
And after that gig, many believed he would never return again, not just because of his poor job, but because he himself declared that he wouldn’t come back.
However, over the past few months it seems he’s retracted that statement. When Eddie Murphy quit as next year’s Oscars host, Deadline reported Gervais jokingly offered his services at a discount price, saying he would be down to hosting both the Oscars and the Globes.
Who knows, maybe third time’s a charm.
