Ricky Gervais just wrapped his third year hosting the Golden Globes this past Sunday, but he is now making it known that this would be his last time hosting the prestigious event.
Gervais wrote a message on his blog letting fans know that he had fun this last time, but he’s ready to throw in the towel.
“Phew! Thank f--- that’s over,” he wrote, New York Daily News reports. “I had a blast actually. It was by far my favorite of the three hosting stints. I’ve told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though.”
He then compared hosting to a “parachute jump,” saying “You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realize you didn't die and it was quite an amazing thing to do."
Last year, the British comic’s Globes hosting gig was pretty controversial, as he took jabs at Robert Downey Jr., Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp’s film The Tourist and more.
Although he still brought his usual no-nonsense humor to the stage, his jokes were just a tad more mild than last year. “The crowd was with me this time. They went where I went," he said after the event. "It’s like they were ready for me this time and it felt pitch-perfect.
This time around, he opted for digs toward Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber and would-be Oscar host Eddie Murphy.
Reuters reports that the Globes experienced a slight dip in its ratings from last year, with the 2011 event drawing 17 million viewers and this year’s receiving 16.8 million.
