Ricky Gervais starts Golden Globes off with a bang, rips Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber

Ricky Gervais returned as host of the 2012 Golden Globe Awards, and although he returned with a bit of caution, he made his return with no apologies from last year.

“So, where was I?,” he asked the audience of A-listers. “Nervous? Don’t be. This isn’t about you.”

The British comedian, who is in his third year as host, still had a no holds barred attitude when it came to the jokes. His biggest target so far, however, wasn’t an attendee, but one of 2011’s biggest tabloid targets, Kim Kardashian.

“The Golden Globes to the Oscars are what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton: a bit louder, a bit trashier, a bit drunker, and more easily bought. Allegedly,” he said.

But that wasn’t the only hit he had toward the reality star.

“What’s with all the divorces? Arnold and Maria, J Lo and Marc Anthony, Ashton and Demi, Kim Kardashian and some guy no one will remember. He wasn’t around long.”

“72 days,” he continued. “A marriage that lasted 72 days. I’ve sat through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches.”

Kim Kardashian wasn’t his only target, so was Justin Bieber.

“Another celebrity scandal: Justin Bieber nearly had to take a paternity test,” he laughed. “What a waste of a test that would’ve been. No, he’s not the father. The only way he could impregnate a girl, was if he borrowed one of Martha Stewart’s old turkey basters. Open wide.”

Other than poking fun at himself and the Hollywood Foreign Press, his other targets included Adam Sandler, Johnny Depp, and Eddie Murphy.

“When the man who said yes to Norbit says no to you, you know you’re in trouble,” he said about Murphy turning down the Oscars.

To Johnny Depp, the first presenter, he said: "I want to ask you a question. And be honest. Are you on recreational drugs? I'm joking, that’s not the question. And we know the answer [to that]. Have you seen The Tourist yet?” he asked.

Depp’s response: “No.”
