Ridley Scott to Direct "Monopoly" the Movie

Director says it will be humorous and exciting.

Golden Globe winner Ridley Scott is planning to direct the Hasbro-Universal collaborative film based on the popular board game, Monopoly, according to Reuters. The movie will be creatively named Monopoly. The Alien director plans to set the movie in a darker and more futuristic tone, in the style of Blade Runner, another of Scott's classic movies. In an August 2007 interview in the L.A. Times, Scott stated that the movie "ought to be humorous and for the family." He further elaborated that the humor and thrill will come from the changes in social and economic classes. "You watch people change. You're witness to Jekyll and Hyde. Somewhere in that is a hysterically amusing and I think rather exciting film." Pamela Pettler, writer of Corpse Bride and Monster House, has signed on as screenwriter for the board game-turned-film, while Giannina Facio and Brian Goldner will be joining Ridley as producers. Monopoly is not the only board game to be transformed for the big screen. Quija Board is currently being produced by Michael Bay's production company, Platinum Dunes, Battleship is in development, and G.I. Joe, directed by Stephen Sommers, is scheduled to be released next summer by Paramount.
