Ridley Scott Rediscovers "Aliens"

Ridley Scott, the director of the first movie in the "Aliens" franchise, is going to return to direct the prequel.

Like most franchises, when the ideas start running out and the movies keep getting lower and lower Rotten Tomatoes ratings and box office grosses, it's time to either do a prequel or a reboot. Such is the case with director Ridley Scott, who is set to return to the "Aliens" franchise, this time to direct a prequel.

The franchise began in 1979 with actress Sigourney Weaver and John Hurt. Scott was not involved in the "Aliens" sequel or the "Aliens vs. Predator" spin-off. Weaver, who plays the alien-battling Ellen Ripley in all of the "Aliens" films, was quoted by MTV News as saying that she "can't imagine" being part of the film.

The story, to be penned by Jon Spaihts, is rumored to be about the events leading up to the first film, which had the commercial towing ship, Nostromo, responding to a distress signal only to find an alien spacecraft. The original "Aliens" won an Oscar in 1980 for best visual effects.
