Rihanna to Testify in Chris Brown Hearing
At Chris Brown's preliminary hearing on June 22, it appears that singer Rihanna will give her account of what transpired on February 8, the night that Brown allegedly assaulted her.
Following a hearing in Los Angeles on Thursday, Donald Etra, Rihanna's lawyer, stated that prosecutors intend to subpoena her to the preliminary hearing, in order to determine whether or not the amount of existing evidence warrants a trial, EntertainmentWeekly.com reports. Etra reportedly said that the DA has informed him that 21-year-old Rihanna will be subpoenaed to testify as a witness in this case. "She absolutely will comply," he confirmed.
According to the EW.com report, the DA disclosed that Brown's lawyer, Mark Geragos's, motion, which requested access to police records to discover who is responsible for the leaking of a photograph depicting a bruised and battered Rihanna, was denied. Geragos will be permitted to cross-examine Rihanna when she takes the witness stand.
Brown, 20, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If convicted, he could face up to four years and eight months in prison, according to EW.com. As the report states, experts believe that a plea deal is the likely result of this case.
