The movie rights for Roald Dahl’s The BFG have been picked up by DreamWorks.

According to TheWrap, the children’s book, published back in 1982, follows the story of a big friendly giant. He spends his time collecting dreams and giving children the good ones. E.T. writer Melissa Mathison has signed on to adapt the script.

MovieFone says The BFG will join Fantastic Mr. Fox, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and The Witches as Dahl books that have been made into movies.

Along with The BFG, DreamWorks has more than 30 other projects underway. Their biggest hit this year was The Help, based on the 2009 book by Kathryn Stockett. The film brought in more than $150 million since its release.

The release date for The BFG movie has not been announced yet.
