Robert De Niro uncharacteristically opened up during Saturday’s Tribeca Film Festival, sitting down with NBC's Brian Williams for a candid interview.
According to the L.A. Times, De Niro sat down with Brian Williams during a one-on-one public interview at the film festival, which De Niro co-founded. The actor opened up about his career moves and the roles he’s both played and should have taken, saying, “Whatever I did, that’s it; I stand by it, for better or worse. What am I going to do?”
He also discussed his passion to follow up on The Good Shepherd. De Niro proclaimed, “I always wanted to do a sequel from ’61, the Bay of Pigs, to ’89, when the [Berlin] Wall came down. I’m still trying to do that.”
USA Today shared more interview highlights including De Niro’s revelation regarding a biography snipped from IMDb.com. Williams read, “Robert Mario De Niro, who is thought of as one of the greatest actors of his time, was born in New York City in 1943 to two artists.”
As the audience applauded in agreement, De Niro interjected and said, “Wait, I want to say one thing. My middle name is Anthony.” Shocked, Williams responded, “What the h---! I’ve got their app!” and pulled out his iPad in sync with his comment.
De Niro also opened up about politics and motives, believing Obama has good intentions but that "some other people, their intentions aren't even good; they're just playing a game."
Taking a jab at Donald Trump's birther campaign, De Niro added, some are "making statements about people they don't even back up," before continuing, "How dare you? That's awful. Just to go out there and say things you can't back up," he said. "That's crazy."
