According to Deadline.com, Robert Downey, Jr. is in talks to star in Alfonso Cuaron's new film, Gravity.
Downey is supposedly in talks to play the leader of a team of astronauts posted at a remote space station. When Downey's character and another team member are in transit outside the space station, the debris of an exploding satellite crashes into the base and kills most of the team. The survivors mount a desperate escape plan to return home to earth.
Cuaron wrote the script with his son, Jonas. Cuaron also directed Children of Men, and Y Tu Mama Tambien. He also directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures are financing the film.
Universal originally developed the idea for the film, but ended their involvement in the project. During that time, Angelina Jolie was slated for the female lead, but declined the project after Universal split.
