Robert Downey, Jr., who has experienced his share of highs, so to speak, and lows, is currently at the top of his game with mega box office hit, Iron Man. The actor is now set to star in Guy Ritchie's upcoming film, cleverly dubbed, Sherlock Holmes.
Downey, Jr. learned of the role through his wife, Susan, who works for Joel Silver, one of the producers of the film, according to Hollywood Reporter.
Sherlock Holmes, which is to begin filming in the fall, will be released opposite a Columbia Sherlock Holmes film featuring Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell. While Columbia's feature will be a comedy, Ritchie's interpretation of the classic detective is said to be more adventurous.
Sherlock Holmes is scheduled to be released in Oct. 2009.
